Laser light Based Automatic Door opening system using MSP430

In this fast moving world, Engineers trying to automate everything in every field and make the life easy. In our daily life we can see many automatic devices ranging from simple toy car to rocket science. An automatic control of the door is huge requirement for shopping malls, houses, trains, etc., generally, so many automatic door lock systems works with infrared sensors technology. But infrared sensors are very sensitive to sunrays or ambient light which will lead control system to perform malfunctions. So to avoid this problem a daylight filter should be integrated along with the infrared sensors. But this will increase the size and cost of the device.
In this project, we proposed a solution for the problem exist that by using infrared sensors and its circuitry. Instead of using infrared sensor technology for applications like automatic door opening systems, the laser light technology will be best solution for it. Because of the laser receiver diode are less sensitive to daylight. Therefore, the malfunctioning of the device will be less compared to devices which use infrared sensor technology. By using laser technology, the complexity of the device, circuit size and cost will be reduced which is comparatively high in IR based devices.
A laser diode acts as a transmitter and a photodiode acts as a receiver. The photodiode receiver output is fed to the microcontroller input via comparator. Finally a relay is used to drive the motor ON and OFF with help of microcontroller. A DC motor rotation is used to represent opening and closing of the door in this project.

Note: Here i am using MSP430 Microcontroller, so no need of comparator. The controller itself contains inbuilt comparator. For other Microcontrollers you can use comparator, that why I mention the comparator.
