                           Abstract
Generally, in temples theft of God/Goddess ornaments happen during night time. Because of the security overlook, the thief hides inside the temple after the temple was closed.
In schools, before the doors of the class room get closed, the staff may overlook the students who have sleep inside the room by mistake.
In corporate offices, colleges and houses, wastage of electricity may happen because of continues running of air conditioners, fans and lights even though no one present in the room.
To solve these problems, we need to count the number of persons entered/leaving into/from the room. This count is maintained and displays outside the room.
To design the application, we take the advantage of IR sensors. Here, two IR transmitters and Receivers are placed side by side in front of the door. The person entered into the room by crossing the sensor1 and sensor2, then microcontroller increments the count and displays in the LCD/7-Segment display. The person leaves the room by crossing sensor2 and sensor1, then the microcontroller decrements the count and displays in LCD/7-Segment display.
In this application, two IR diodes with 555timer circuitry as transmitters and two TSOP1738 as IR receivers. A microcontroller (Atmel 89s52) performs increment or decrement operation and count depends on the person entering or leaving.
